The Organization for the Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine (ODFFU), a community-based organization working for Ukraine and the Ukrainian Community since 1946, condemns the Russian Federation for its brutal terrorist attack against Mariupol and expresses its sincerest condolences to the families of the innocent victims of the attack.
The Russo-Ukrainian War has escalated exponentially in recent weeks. The Organization for the Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine strongly condemns the actions of the Russian Federation against the free, democratic Ukrainian nation in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. The ODFFU reiterates that the Russian terrorists have not honored the legal ceasefire agreed to by both Kyiv and Moscow in September 2014. Evidence of this disregard for international law includes the complete destruction of Donetsk Airport, the bombing of a civilian bus outside of the city of Volnovakha, and the most recent shelling of Mariupol. The government of Vladimir Putin has, thus, disregarded the norms of a civil international community by invading Russia’s peaceful neighbor and instituting senseless, terroristic murder in eastern Ukraine.
The ODFFU also demands the immediate release of Nadiya Savchenko, a political prisoner of war being held in solitary confinement in Moscow. Savchenko, on a hunger strike since December 13, 2014, is a Ukrainian national hero held captive by the Russian Federation for her leading efforts in the fight against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
For centuries, Ukraine has fought for independence from the imperialistic visions of neighboring countries. Vladimir Putin’s Russia is the most recent in this long list of invaders. The ODFFU urges an immediate push from the United States to support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and to help end the conflicts in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea.
